HOMEFRONT COMPASS / LANDSCAPE FIELD LAB 08

Compare the yard.
Not just the plants.

Plant water-use labels are one part of a landscape decision. Record two areas or concepts side by side, then carry the differences into a conversation about use, exposure, irrigation and the actual WUCOLS record.

WHAT THE LABEL CAN — AND CANNOT — TELL YOU

A category is context.
It is not a watering schedule.

WUCOLS assigns regional landscape water-use categories to plant taxa. EPA WaterSense separately emphasizes site conditions and grouping plants with similar watering needs into hydrozones.

This lab does not estimate gallons, watering frequency, utility bills, plant survival, legal turf restrictions, rebates or product eligibility. Verify the actual plant, region, soil, irrigation and local rules with the appropriate primary source or professional.

TWO-ZONE DECISION RECORD

Put two landscape ideas
on the same page.

These are homeowner records, not scored recommendations. “Very low” or “low” only means the category you say you verified in WUCOLS for the plant and region you researched.

COMPARISON RECORD

Two blank research cards.

Record both areas. Compass will list differences and open questions without ranking either option.
