COMPASS PRO / MEASUREMENT LAB 05
Know the quantity.
Account for waste.
Five simple, transparent quantity models for field measurements: flooring cartons, sheet materials, linear stock, concrete volume and paint coverage. Supply the real dimensions and product coverage yourself.

scenario at a time.
Material calculations need JavaScript. If interactive takeoff is unavailable, review the geometry and manufacturer checks below with a separate calculator. Measurements cannot be submitted.
METHOD / MEASUREMENT BEFORE PURCHASE
Measure first.
Assume less.
A takeoff only becomes useful when it states what was measured, which product size applies and how the waste allowance was chosen. This lab makes those assumptions visible rather than imposing generic percentages or prices.
Results are estimates of geometric material quantities, not order confirmations, technical construction instructions, structural design, final field takeoffs, product warranties or building-code compliance decisions. Openings, irregular shapes, pattern matching, cuts, leftovers, joints and site conditions need qualified review.
03 / TRANSPARENT FORMULAS
The arithmetic
behind the takeoff.
Flooring cartons: length × width × identical areas × (1 + waste %) ÷ confirmed carton coverage, rounded up to a whole carton.
Sheets: measured surface area × (1 + waste %) ÷ the nominal selected sheet area, rounded up to a whole sheet. This does not solve seam or cut layouts.
Linear stock: run length × number of runs × (1 + waste %) ÷ usable stock length, rounded up to whole pieces.
Concrete: length × width × (thickness inches ÷ 12) × number of pours ÷ 27 for cubic yards; apply selected overage. Structural, subgrade, delivery and batching requirements are outside this calculation.
Paint: measured area × coats ÷ manufacturer coverage per gallon × (1 + loss %) for gallons; divide by actual container gallons and round containers up. Substrate, coats and application must be verified.
All conversions are plain geometry, not a manufacturer's installation or coverage assurance. Check actual product instructions and field measurements. If your layout is irregular, divide it into measured sections before relying on any single rectangle.
